2G 3G 4G bands in Ghana visualized

While looking for a phone or a modem to buy, if the phone or modem supports a network's band, you can use that network's band.

If your phone or modem doesn't support a network's band, then it cannot use that network's band. Your connection may be slower or you may have less signal, or you may not be able to use that network at all.

Your phone or modem must be unlocked, or locked to the network you intend to use.

For example, a Huawei E3372 modem supports

"FDD: DD800/900/1800/2100/2600

UMTS: 900/2100

GSM:850/900/1800/1900"

DD800 means band 20.

900 means band 8.

1800 means band 3.

2100 means band 1.

FDD without giving more context refers to a kind of 4G LTE. The tower and phone transmit on separate frequencies. 38,40, and 41 are not FDD.

UMTS or WCDMA mean 3G (not 4GLTE; not 2G)

GSM, without giving more context, means 2G (G or E).

From this, we can know which networks it can be used with.

Additional capabilities vary. Example: It does not support MTN's 4G+, because it only supports:

"Cat4 DL: 150 Mbps / UL: 50 Mbps @20 M BW".

Instead it will use only one (4G), not two(4G+), of MTN's channels:

- Band 7 20MHz: <18722KB/s download;

- Band 20 15MHz: <13767KB/s download;

- Band 7 5MHz: <4587KB/s download.

Technical information:

Q: Why can't a network use more? A: Use of spectrum requires the purchase of a license.

2G is plotted as 0.2MHz per channel.

3G is plotted as 5MHz per channel. It is important to note that there is a guard band and the spectrum used by the actual 3G signal is narrower.

2G channels are from the publicly broadcast system information.

Only the downlink frequencies are displayed. Uplink frequencies can be calculated from the downlink frequencies.

FDD bands are taller. A list of MNCs is at the top.

Availability of Blu may vary.

Subject to change. This page may be updated with new information when changes are made.

This page is only a quick guide. If something requires a license and you're not sure you own a license to transmit something, you shall not transmit it.

Update 1:

Made Telesol 15MHz instead of 3 separate 5MHz channels, because Telesol no longer splits it that way.

Fixed Band 8 3G visualization. Spectrum that may contain 3G are with stripes.

Update 2:

Added MTN Band 3.

Had Glo point at 3, because towers on Glo frequencies now use 620-3.

Indicated spectrum that might be unused.

Update 3:

Removed Blu, extended MTN.

Update 4:

Fixed Band 41 visualization, added spectrum (B7 15MHz), added details of what Vodafone refarms 2G spectrum as.
